The book by Michael Graziano, professor of psychology and neuroscience at Princeton University and author of the already acclaimed Attention Scheme Theory, presents a new theory of consciousness. According to it, what we call consciousness is actually a model of our own psyche. Graziano argues that it is natural for people to create such models – even in relation to inanimate objects. The author puts forward the hypothesis of the origin of consciousness in an evolutionary series, describes along with the real some intellectual experiments, elaborates on the phenomenon of social consciousness and offers a scenario of lifetime transfer of personality to artificial carriers for posthumous existence.
